Dodger Stadium Information

  • Location: Los Angeles, California
  • Address: 1000 Elysian Park Avenue
  • Capacity: 56,000
  • Preceded By: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
  • Year Opened: 1962
  • Occupants: Los Angeles Dodgers

After moving from Brooklyn in 1957, the Dodgers came to Los Angeles and began play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a stadium which had hosted sports ranging from football to track and field at the 1932 Olympic Games. Ironically, the Dodgers' first game in Los Angeles was against the San Francisco Giants, which joined the ballclub's exodus from New York City. After a few years at the Coliseum, the team moved into their sparkling new home, Dodgers Stadium, in 1962. The 56,000-seat venue is still the largest ballpark by seating capacity in Major League Baseball and the third-oldest active venue behind Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.

Over 125 million spectators have come to visit Dodger Stadium since it opened, and it is one of the most treasured landmarks in Southern California. The massive ballpark is spectacularly maintained, with more than 3,400 trees planted over a span of 300 acres. While the facade of the park resembles the glory days of baseball, the field itself is a technical marvel. In 1995, the Dodgers installed a natural grass field developed by Motz Group, which uses state-of-the-art irrigation techniques to control moisture. The grass is grown in pure sand, which is located over a water-tight plastic layer and houses a vacuum chamber. This can forcibly remove water during heavy rains and reduce ballplayers' risk of injury.

The aesthetics of Dodger Stadium has an enduring quality that continues to be breathtaking. The south-facing view from the stadium gives fans a gorgeous glimpse of downtown Los Angeles, and the entire area is nestled into a hillside that overlooks the city. The ballpark also features a slew of modern restaurants and amenities that keep the venue modern and satiate the needs of hungry fans. While there is plenty of parking available, there are also shuttles that run from downtown Los Angeles to the stadium for those who don't feel like making the trek.

In 2008, the Dodgers announced that they would stay in Dodger Stadium for the next 50 years, with a few improvements along the way. With the ideal climate, a beautiful landscape and one of the largest seating capacities in the Major Leagues, Dodger Stadium will remain a fixture in the National League for years to come. With division championships in 2008 and 2009, the Los Angeles Dodgers are rising stars in the NL West playoff race and look to capture another World Series title in the coming years.

Chase Field Information

Chase Field was completed in 1998 to house one of the newest teams in Major League Baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks. The towering structure is one of the few venues in the MLB with a retractable roof, which uses two 200-horsepower engines and more than four miles of cable to open or close in only four and a half minutes. With a capacity of 48,569, the ballpark has ample seating and spectacular sightlines that allow fans to get a great view of the action. Chase Field is also the first and only ballpark in the Majors to feature a pool. Located behind the fence in right-center field, the pool seats are some of the most sought-after tickets on the market and they have been the recipient of countless home run balls over the years.

The designers of Chase Field wanted to eliminate any obstructed views, and amazingly, nearly 85 percent of the ballpark's seats are located between the foul poles. The ballpark is also home to one of the most impressive video boards in all of the professional sports. The giant video board is located in the center field and is the widest display system in the MLB. Measuring 136 feet wide and 46 feet tall, the high-definition LED board can produce up to 4.4 trillion colors. Additionally, in 2007, the Diamondbacks installed an LED ribbon display that circles around the entire second deck of the stadium. At 1,119 feet, it is one of the largest in Major League Baseball.

As one of the largest structures in downtown Phoenix, Chase Field is surrounded by a plethora of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs that fans can enjoy before and after the game. The building is also linked up to Phoenix's public transportation system and also offers approximately 18,600 parking spaces within a 15-minute walk of the ballpark.

Chase Field was the site of the Diamondback's first and only World Series title in 2001 when the squad knocked off the heavily-favored New York Yankees. Since then, the team has extensively scouted new players and now field one of the youngest and most talented teams in the National League. After winning their division in 2011, the Diamondbacks have set their sights on recapturing their previous World Series magic and bringing another title home to the Phoenix faithful.
