Dodger Stadium Information

  • Location: Los Angeles, California
  • Address: 1000 Elysian Park Avenue
  • Capacity: 56,000
  • Preceded By: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
  • Year Opened: 1962
  • Occupants: Los Angeles Dodgers

After moving from Brooklyn in 1957, the Dodgers came to Los Angeles and began play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a stadium which had hosted sports ranging from football to track and field at the 1932 Olympic Games. Ironically, the Dodgers' first game in Los Angeles was against the San Francisco Giants, which joined the ballclub's exodus from New York City. After a few years at the Coliseum, the team moved into their sparkling new home, Dodgers Stadium, in 1962. The 56,000-seat venue is still the largest ballpark by seating capacity in Major League Baseball and the third-oldest active venue behind Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.

Over 125 million spectators have come to visit Dodger Stadium since it opened, and it is one of the most treasured landmarks in Southern California. The massive ballpark is spectacularly maintained, with more than 3,400 trees planted over a span of 300 acres. While the facade of the park resembles the glory days of baseball, the field itself is a technical marvel. In 1995, the Dodgers installed a natural grass field developed by Motz Group, which uses state-of-the-art irrigation techniques to control moisture. The grass is grown in pure sand, which is located over a water-tight plastic layer and houses a vacuum chamber. This can forcibly remove water during heavy rains and reduce ballplayers' risk of injury.

The aesthetics of Dodger Stadium has an enduring quality that continues to be breathtaking. The south-facing view from the stadium gives fans a gorgeous glimpse of downtown Los Angeles, and the entire area is nestled into a hillside that overlooks the city. The ballpark also features a slew of modern restaurants and amenities that keep the venue modern and satiate the needs of hungry fans. While there is plenty of parking available, there are also shuttles that run from downtown Los Angeles to the stadium for those who don't feel like making the trek.

In 2008, the Dodgers announced that they would stay in Dodger Stadium for the next 50 years, with a few improvements along the way. With the ideal climate, a beautiful landscape and one of the largest seating capacities in the Major Leagues, Dodger Stadium will remain a fixture in the National League for years to come. With division championships in 2008 and 2009, the Los Angeles Dodgers are rising stars in the NL West playoff race and look to capture another World Series title in the coming years.

Wrigley Field Tickets

Ranked among the most famous sports venues in the United States is Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. Wrigley is the home venue for the Chicago Cubs baseball game. The venue also hosts some marquee concerts and an occasional college football or hockey game. Wrigley Field first opened over a century ago in 1914, and has been primarily a daytime baseball stadium for most of its illustrious history.

Wrigley Field is often referred to as "the friendly confines" and fans attending a game there will feel like they are stepping back in-time as the design of the ballpark harkens back to venues of the past. Fans sitting in the outfield bleachers drinking an Old Style beer may feel like they have gone back decades to when major league baseball was the most popular sport in the country. Wrigley and Fenway Park (in Boston) are two of the only baseball stadiums left who have those decades old roots.

The capacity at Wrigley is just over 41,500 for a big baseball game, although attendance can be larger for a concert where chairs are placed on the field. Wrigley has field level seating and a upper-deck. The field level includes the Club Box seats in Sections 1-32 and the Field Box seats that are just behind those including Sections 101-134. The Terrace level and Upper Reserved including the the 200, 300 and 400-level section numbers. A popular area to sit for a Cubs home game is in the outfield bleacher seats, which sit behind Left, Center and Right Field. Many fans attending a Cubs home game will tell you those Bleacher seats are among the most fun place to sit in baseball. For more events in the Windy City, check out our Chicago events guide.
