The Mets have been playing baseball in the National league since the 1962 season. The franchise got off to an inauspicious start in ’62, becoming one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball history, finishing 40-120. But things turned around for the Mets in 1969. Led by a terrific young pitching staff that featured future Hall of Famer Tom Seaver and a young Nolan Ryan, the Mets won 100 games, won the division, and defeated the Baltimore Orioles in five games to become World Series champions. Four years later Seaver and company returned to the World Series, but were defeated by the Oakland Athletics. The mid 1980s marked the next era of Met success. In 1986, a team full of All-Stars like Dwight Gooden, Keith Hernandez, Daryl Strawberry and Gary Carter powered the Mets back to the World Series. Thanks to a poorly played ground ball by Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner in Game 6 of the series, the Mets secured their second World Series title. The Mets returned to the World Series in 2000, losing to the New York Yankees. Following the loss in the 2000 Subway Series, the Mets won only a single playoff series until 2015, when the pitching duo of Matt Harvey and Jason deGrom led the New York Mets to another NL East title and a victory in the NL Championship Series. 2016 Mets Season Preview
The New York Mets were one of the surprise teams of the season a year ago, bringing home their first NL East title since 2006, and winning the National League Championship Series. The Mets return in 2016 hungry to finish the job they started and bring home the franchise’s 3rd World Series. Good news for Mets fans is that the core of last season’s NL Championship team returns in 2016 and the pieces are there for continued success at Citi Field. The pitching duo of Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom should once again lead the way for the Mets, as both pitchers are just coming into the prime of their careers. The biggest offseason signing for the New York Mets was bringing back Yoenis Cespedes, whose bat transformed the Mets offense a year ago. Throw in the veteran leadership of David Wright, and the Mets will once again be a force to be reckoned with in 2016. The success and anticipation has driven up New York Mets ticket prices for the start of the season, and should continue as the year moves on.

Mets vs. Yankees
Picking up where the old Subway Series left off, this inner-city rivalry is one of the most fun each and every season. The matchup was first played in 1997 and became a full-fledged rivalry when the Mets and Yankees met for the 2000 World Series. These two teams are consistently among the highest payrolls in baseball and are always loaded with all-star talent. Yankee Stadium and Citi Field are two of the nicest stadiums in MLB and attending this matchup in one of those stadiums should not be passed up.
Mets vs. Phillies
The Mets and Phillies are both founding members of the NL East, playing over 850 times since 1962. Despite the history, this rivalry didn’t really kickoff until the mid-2000s when both teams were competitive at the same time. Since then the Phillies and Mets have consistently been among the top teams in the NL East, and games between them often prove to be decisive in the NL East pennant race. This matchup is almost always interesting into September, and one of the best divisional matchups in the NL.
Mets vs. Braves
This divisional rivalry has been one of the most interesting and competitive since the mid 1990’s. The rivalry has been played over 650 times, with many of the meetings having playoff berths on the line. The Mets and Braves have twice met in the NLCS and are consistently among the best teams in the National League. The young talent on both teams gives this rivalry even more intrigue as it promises to continue to be a premier matchup in the NL.

The Mets have gone on to win another World Series title over the years and have won over Four NL pennants. New York has won more than 5 NL East titles and reached the World Series again in 2015.

What time do the gates open prior to a Mets game?
Gates at Citi Field open to the general public 90 minutes before the first pitch.
Where are good places to eat before a Mets game?
There are a number of great dining options within a few miles of Citi Field. Italian food fans should try Il Trangolo Restaurant, or Parkside Restaurant. Both are on the higher end of the price scale, but the food is well worth it. If you are looking for mouth-watering barbeque check out Picnic Garden, or Blue Smoke. For those looking to try something new, visit Rincon Criollo, or El Polo Inka Peru, you will not be disappointed. If you want to spend pre-game with plenty of other Mets fans try Recovery Room, Stone Tavern, or 7th Gear. All three are great sports bars and hang out spots for Mets fans before and after games. Other good places in the area are Shake Shack, Jack & Nellie’s, and Little Pepper.
Where is the best place to park at Citi Field?
Parking at Citi field is fairly restrictive. The vast majority of the lots surrounding the stadium are reserved for season ticket and parking pass holders. We highly recommend purchasing a parking pass or arriving to the stadium early. There is a large general parking lot located at the corner of Roosevelt and Grand Central Parkway, to the southwest of the stadium. Another smaller general parking lot is located on the south side of Roosevelt at the same intersection. To the north of the stadium is a third general parking option, but half of this lot is reserved for stadium staff so it fills up quickly. Parking at all the general parking lots is usually around $20 for regular season games.
Does children need tickets to attend a New York Mets game at Citi Field?
Children under 32 inches tall are allowed to enter Citi Field without a ticket, but must sit on a parent’s lap for the duration of the game.
