In 1961, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were one of the first Major League Baseball expansion teams in decades, but they had to begin play without a stadium to call their own. The Angels were supposed to use Dodgers Stadium while their building was being constructed, but it wasn't ready in time and they were forced to play at a minor league stadium called Wrigley Field for their first season. The young ball club finally moved into a home of their own (originally known as Anaheim Stadium) in 1966, changed their name to the California Angels, and started down the long road to becoming major league contenders.

In Angel Stadium's original format, it could accommodate 43,204 fans, but the building would go through various upgrades over its lifespan. In 1979, the stadium underwent an extensive renovation to expand the seating to 65,198 in an effort to lure the NFL's Los Angeles Rams. After the Rams moved to St. Louis in 1995, Angel's owners were faced with the reality of a cavernous ballpark that provided very little home-field advantage. In 1996, the stadium started another set of extensive renovations to reduce the seating capacity to 45,050 and install a wide array of modern amenities. The changes were completed by 1998 and cost an estimated $100 million. Today, the ballpark features spacious concourses, a terraced bullpen, expanded press boxes and luxury suites, three full-service restaurants, and beautifully landscaped courtyards. It also includes the Pepsi Perfect Game Pavilion - a youth-oriented fan zone that features interactive baseball games and other activities and is located on the terrace level in right field. Taking a cue from ballparks like Coors Field, designers of the new Angel Stadium decided to create the Outfield Extravaganza Area. This beautiful bit of landscaping is meant to reproduce the rocky shores of California and adds a dynamic accent behind the outer wall in the left field. To commemorate a home run or other big play on the field, there is a geyser that shoots water 90 feet into the air along with a series of fireworks and pyrotechnics.

With the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim having plenty of success throughout the 2000s, including winning the World Series in 2002, attendance numbers are up at Angel Stadium as fans eagerly anticipate yet another thrilling victory for their home team.
