The NASCAR All-Stars Race, formally known as The Winston, is held in Charlotte, North Carolina and is a Sprint Cup Series non-point event. The race is typically run in May, just before the Indianapolis 500. This event is between race winners from the previous season and the current seasons winners. This is the race of champions with a lot of fender grinding and sparks flying. After all, it is dubbed “Checkers or Wreckers” by race fans. 2018 NASCAR All-Star Race Preview
Leading up to this non-point race, drivers and teams will have already run the Daytona 500 and the NRA 500; drivers will be looking for redemption, others, to stay on top. The race's distance is 90 laps, 135 miles and is separated into four segments of 20 laps and a final 10 lap run to the finish. A short race by NASCAR standards and will be a shoot-out between drivers.
Jimmie Johnson won the number one spot for the last two years and has won this race more than any other driver, with a four wins. Last year, Johnson raced all 135 laps in 1:29:20, at an average speed of 90.67 MPH, winning 1,039,175.
NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway
Address: 5555 Concord Pkwy S, Concord, North Carolina, 28027 Charlotte Motor Speedway is considered the “home track” for most of the NASCAR drivers and teams because many are from, or live near the Charlotte, NC area. This is a short race with only 90 laps, which equals 135 miles and is done in segments. The track itself is a quad oval; seating capacity is 140,000 on their feet, screaming fans and has grandstands that stretch almost entirely around the track. Other races held at this iconic track are the prestigious Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day and the Bank of America 600 in October.
Charlotte Motor Speedway is also known for the other race venues located on or near the track. The first is a .04-mile oval clay dirt track used for Modifieds, World Of Outlaw Sprint Cars (WoO) and Monster Trucks and is situated across the highway from Charlotte Speedway with the state-of-the-art zMAX Dragway. Inside Charlotte Speedway is a 1/5 oval track primarily used for racing Legends.
Seating at a racing event isn’t a challenge, simply because everyone wants to watch from a different vantage point. At Charlotte, seating runs almost around the track, starting with turn four going all the way around to the backstretch, with a small break between turns two and three. Because this track is 1.5 miles, the seating allows several options for multiple views. There is the Toyota Fourth Turn Terrace, with close views to turn three, four and the pit road entrance. The Chrysler, General Motors and Ford seating areas all run along the front stretch and pit road. Next to them are the Grand National Tower and Grand National Tower South, with views of cars coming out from pit road and going into turn two. Finally, there is Diamond Tower Terrace sitting along turn three with upper views almost reaching around the track. When sitting in the lower grandstands, wear earplugs, clear glasses and ladies tie your hair back, the wind from the cars comes fast.

Besides the NASCAR All-Stars at Charlotte there is Drag racing, World If Outlaws Sprint action and two other major events.
