2016 NASCAR AAA Texas 500 Race Preview

Coming into the 2014 AAA Texas 500, the race for Nascar’s Sprint Cup series is as tight as it has been in recent memory. After 34 races, there are 13 drivers tied for points atop the leaderboard as the Contender Round looms large. Look for the Sprint Cup Series race to still be tight on November 2nd, as the drivers line up in Fort Worth for the AAA Texas 500. Jimmy Johnson will try to win his 3rd straight AAA Texas 500, and 4th all time. He will have strong competition from Carl Edwards who, with a win, would tie Johnson for the most AAA Texas wins all time. Texas Motor Speedway is known for being one of the top tracks in Nascar and 2014 looks to be one of the most exciting and unpredictable AAA Texas 500’s to date.

The AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway

Address: 3545 Lone Star Circle, Ft. Worth, Texas, 76177

The NASCAR AAA Texas 500 is held at Texas Motor Speedway (also known as TMS) in Fort Worth, Texas every November. In 2005 during the inaugural AAA Texas 500, Carl Edwards won the very first race in his Ford stock car with the Roush Racing team. In successive years, Jimmy Johnson and Tony Stewart would win the title, and including Edwards are the only drivers to have won the race multiple times in their careers. Oddly enough, racers in the AAA Texas 500 have not fared well when starting from the pole position. Only one driver has managed to win, Kasey Kahne in 2006, after starting with the top spot in the field, while 17 of the 23 races at Texas Motor Speedway have been decided by a driver running from a top-10 starting position.

One of the most notable features of the race that has changed in recent years is the race's transition from an afternoon to a night race. Beginning in 2011, the time of the race was changed to the early evening, so spectators could watch the race under the lights and provide a wonderful primetime opportunity for NASCAR. This has dramatically enhanced the profile of the race and has also helped improve attendance numbers as well.
