Long considered to be the capital of the music industry, Nashville, Tennessee certainly has a scene different than any other in the country. This southern gem is home to a myriad of popular tourist attractions, sporting events and, of course, music venues.
Music is the heart and soul of Nashville. The city is synonymous with country music, and as such, has hosted the CMA Music Festival each year since 1972. What was once a small event has blossomed into an enormous four day celebration of the genre that has featured some of the most famous names in the industry, from Garth Brooks to Dolly Parton to Shania Twain. The festival runs every June, and has since moved to Nissan Stadium due to the huge crowds.
Nashville is also home to the Grand Ole Opry House, one of the most iconic venues in the country. The stage has seen performances from nearly every country music legend, and a stop by this standard is a must for anyone visiting the city. Nashville is also home to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which will give you the opportunity to literally walk back through the genre's history.
Outside of music, the biggest draw for Nashville is the burgeoning sports culture. The city is home to the Tennessee Titans, who moved there from Houston in the late '90s. The team has played its home games at Nissan Stadium for more than a decade and has seen some of the most famous games in recent memory, and has played host to famous players ranging from Steve McNair to Eddie George.
The Nashville Predators of the NHL also play their homes games nearby at the Bridgestone Arena. Since being founded in 1997, the Predators have developed a loyal following and rabid fanbase. Nashville doesn't stop at pro sports, either, as the Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC play their home games in the city.
For those looking to take in something other than music or sports, there are plenty of other attractions. The Nashville Zoo along with the Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art, will give you an appreciation of the local ecosystem and diverse history of The Volunteer State.
