2015 New Orleans Saints Season Preview

The New Orleans Saints finished just shy of winning the NFC South division in 2014, with the Carolina Panthers taking the division with a 7-8-1 record, a tie better than the Saints 7-9. While the stalwart of the Saints success over the last decade has been their high scoring offense, the team will have to operate without superstar tight end Jimmy Graham, who is not on the Saints 2015 roster. New Orleans did look to improve their offense for 2015, by adding depth to their offensive line with the addition of 1st round draft pick Andrus Peat. On defense, the key to the Saints success will once again be hard hitting safety Kenny Vaccaro. To give Vaccaro and company help, New Orleans signed pass rush specialist Anthony Spencer, and drafted talented linebackers Stephone Anthony, and Hau’Oli Kikaha. No division in football might be as wide open as the NFC South, with the Panthers, Saints and Falcons all having legitimate shots to win the division in 2015. Expect the Saints to have an improved defense in 2015, and for them to be in the playoff hunt late in the season. Top Saints non-division games for the Saints in 2015 will be at home against the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, and on the road against the Indianapolis Colts.

2014 New Orleans Saints Season Preview

The Saints had another good season behind Drew Brees, finishing 11-5 but losing to the Seahawks 23-15 in the divisional round of the playoffs. The Saints have long had one of the best offenses in the league with guys like Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham and Pierre Thomas at the All-Pro quarterback’s disposal, but it was the Rob Ryan’s defense that really stepped up in the 2013 season. They figure to be even better this season after signing Jairus Byrd in free agency to start next to former Longhorn star Kenny Vaccaro at safety. The Saints also picked up veteran corner Champ Bailey, hoping he can regain the form he had in 2012. New Orleans will start the season with two away games in Atlanta and Cleveland. The first home game at the Superdome will be Week 3 against the Vikings, after which the Saints will play against the Cowboys in Arlington. New Orleans will also play big home games against the Packers, 49ers, Bengals and Panthers, plus away contests with Carolina, Pittsburgh and Chicago.
