The Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, is one of the most impressive arenas in the tri-state metro area and is the home to the New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey Nets. Opened in 2007, the arena is one of the newest buildings in either league and features a number of cutting-edge improvements. The Prudential Center boasts a 4,800-square foot LED screen, 750 flat screen televisions and some of the biggest luxury boxes of any arena in the United States. The Prudential Center is a key cog in the revitalization of downtown Newark and it has changed the fortunes of the city in a positive way.

The New Jersey Devils came to the Garden State in 1982, and after a few years of lingering in the middle of the standings, they became a force in the Stanley Cup playoffs in the mid-'90s. The Devils would go onto win the Stanley Cup in 1995, 2000 and 2003, but they are still looking for their first title in the Prudential Center. The Devils have been blessed with many great players over the years, including Martin Brodeur, Scott Stevens and Patrick Elias, and they always seem to be in the thick of things during the NHL postseason.

The New Jersey Nets have also enjoyed a bout of recent success, but it came before the move to Prudential in 2010 at the Nets' old home, the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Nets enjoyed the stellar play of Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Kenyon Martin, who led them to the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. While the Nets fell short both times, they have been in the process of rebuilding their roster to become a strong contender in the coming years. The Nets have moved on to the even newer Barclays Center.

The Prudential Center has become one of the preferred concert venues for New Jersey residents and New Yorkers alike. With easy access to the New Jersey Transit PATH train, attending a concert is quick and painless compared to several of its tri-state counterparts. The Prudential has hosted big names like Taylor Swift, The Eagles, Soundgarden and Katy Perry, and these are just some of the many notable events that the venue has hosted.

Downtown Newark has received a welcome boost from the Prudential Center, which looks to be the city's mecca of sports, music and entertainment for the near future.
