The Texans are the NFL’s newest franchise, debuting in 2002 to fill the void in Houston left by the departure of the Oilers to Tennessee. Houston started its franchise by selecting David Carr with the first overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. Though they won their first ever game by upsetting in state rivals the Dallas Cowboys, the Texans lost more games than they won over their first five seasons. During the seasons of losses, Houston did make strides toward creating a winning team, namely adding Miami wide receiver Andre Johnson in the first round of the 2003 draft. Perhaps the Texans’ biggest move was hiring Gary Kubiak as the head coach in 2006. After posting a losing season in his debut year, Kubiak has had just one more losing season since. Kubiak finally got his team over the hump and into the playoffs for the first time in 2011, winning the franchise’s first division title. Having turned over the roster and created a winner, Kubiak has now won two straight division titles. A new franchise, the Texans have yet to retire any player’s number. 2016 Texans Season Preview

The Houston Texans rebounded from a disastrous 2013 season to win 9 games in 2014. Despite massive improvement, the Texans missed the playoffs for a 2nd straight season. Houston enters 2015 with plenty of questions surrounding the quarterback positions. Gone is Case Keenum, and in is veteran Bryan Hoyer. Hoyer will have one of the best receivers in the game in DeAndre Hopkins, and the Texans will hope to have Arian Foster back healthy for the first time in 3 years. Also gone for 2015 is Houston Texans legend Andre Johnson, who moved to the division rival Colts after 12 seasons in Houston Where there are plenty of questions surrounding the Texans offensively, the Texans defense should be one of the best in the NFL. The defensive end duo of J.J. Watt and Jadaveon Clowney could be the best in the game, and the addition of cornerback Kevin Johnson will help sure up the Texans defense. While the Colts will likely be the favorite to win the AFC South again in 2015, if Bryan Hoyer is able to provide stability at Quarterback, the Texans could return to the playoffs.
