Miami started its professional football days in the old AFL, but joined the NFL in 1969. The first few years of Dolphins football started out slowly, with the team posting losing records each of their first few seasons. Then the Dolphins hired former Baltimore Colt coach Don Shula as the new head coach. With his winning pedigree, Shula led the Dolphins to a 10-4 record and brought them to the playoffs for the first time. Making the playoffs was just the tip of the iceberg for Shula’s Dolphins however. In 1971 his club clinched its first division title and reached the Super Bowl before falling to the Dallas Cowboys. In 1972 Miami finished with a perfect record and would win Super Bowl VII. The following year, the Dolphins returned to the Super Bowl and won their second consecutive title. Miami would make the Super Bowl for a fourth time with Bob Griese under center in 1982, and once more with quarterback Dan Marino in 1984. The Dolphins have retired the numbers of Griese, Marino, and running back Larry Csonka. Check out our Miami Dolphins History page for more information. 2015 Dolphins Season Preview
For a 2nd season in a row, the Miami Dolphins finished with an 8-8 record in 2014. Despite finishing with the same record, the eye test on the Dolphins showed that they were a much more talented, and complete team in 2014. Ryan Tannehill has continued to raise his level of play, and is probably the 2nd best quarterback in the AFC East, behind Tom Brady. The Dolphins used their first pick in the 2015 NFL draft to add big play receiver DeVante Parker as well as signed veteran Greg Jennings to what is now one of the most talented receiver corps in the NFL. But it is on the defensive side of the ball that the 2015 Dolphins will likely see the biggest improvement. The Miami Dolphins spent big money to bring in probably the best defensive tackle in the game, in Ndamukong Suh, and drafted talented defensive tackle prospect Jordan Phillips out of Oklahoma. While the Patriots might still be the class of the AFC East, the Dolphins now have the defensive line talent to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks, as well as an offense that could take the next step to elite status in 2015. Look for the Dolphins to put pressure on the Patriots in 2015, win more than 8 games, and possibly clinch their first playoff berth since 2008.

Dolphins vs. Jets
These two teams have met nearly 100 times and this rivalry is almost evenly split in the win/loss column. With over 15 division titles between the two teams, this matchup usually has a lot on the line that only intensifies this rivalry. When you consider both teams have won a Super Bowl, it is no wonder why this has become one of the best rivalries in the NFL.
Dolphins vs. Patriots
It is not a surprise that the two most successful franchises in the AFC East and the only two teams that have gone undefeated during the entire regular season since the 1970 merger would be rivals. With multiple Super Bowl titles and over 40 playoff appearances, these two teams show no signs of slowing down and this rivalry is still very much alive.
Dolphins in the Super Bowl, AFC Championship and NFL Playoffs

An organization that started in 1966, “The Fins” will only continue to add to the legacy that was created over 40 years ago.
