The New England Patriots were founded as an expansion team in the American Football League back in 1959. Though synonymous with winning today, the Patriots franchise got off to a very slow start. The then-Boston Patriots made the AFL championship game in 1963, but recorded just five winning seasons in its first 16 years. In 1976 the Patriots turned around the franchise's trajectory, making the playoffs for the first time since 1963 by earning a Wild Card spot. New England further improved in 1978, winning its first AFC East division title. After a few more playoff berths, the Patriots won its first AFC title and reached its first Super Bowl in 1985. New England became the consistent threat we know them to be today in the 1990s when Drew Bledsoe took the reins under center, making the playoffs four times in his eight-year tenure. In 2001, the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era of Patriots football began. The duo has yet to post a losing season in 12 seasons with Brady as a starter and the pair has gone on to win three Super Bowls. New England's Hall of Fame features 18 former players. 2016 Patriots Season Preview

The New England Patriots had a fairy tale season in 2014, winning the Super Bowl on an interception in the end zone. While the high from such an unforgettable Super Bowl finish may have yet to subside, the Patriots have retooled and are looking for the 5th title of the Brady era in 2015. The biggest hole that the Patriots will have to fill after last season will be at cornerback. The departure of Derrelle Revis, leaves the Patriots defense without possible the best player in the game at that position. To improve the defense for 2015, the Patriots drafted 7 defensive players, including defensive tackle Malcolm Brown, who could help fill the hole left by Vince Wilfork’s departure. On the offensive side of the ball New England will once again have one of the NFL’s most feared units, behind Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski. The New England Patriots should dominate the AFC North once again, and be in contention for another Super Bowl run in 2015.
