Tennessee Titans Tickets Information

The Titans began playing professional football in the AFL in 1960 as the Houston Oilers. It wasn't until 1997 that the Oilers up and moved to Tennessee and 1999 that they became the Titans that we know them as today. The Oilers had immediate success in the AFL, winning the AFL championship in each of the franchise's first two seasons. Tough times befell the Oilers after their move to the NFL, missing the playoffs for the team's first eight years in the NFL. With the arrival of running back Earl Campbell in 1978 came three straight playoff appearances, but the Oilers soon bottomed out again. In 1987 the Oilers began a run of success that would last them 17 seasons. After returning to the playoffs for four straight seasons from 1987-1990, the Oilers broke a streak of 23 straight years without a division title, winning the AFC Central for the first time in 1991. From 1987 to 2003, the Oilers/Titans made the playoffs 11 times. The franchise has retired the numbers of seven players, including current head coach Mike Munchak's No. 67. 2016 Titans Season Preview

The Tennessee Titans struggled through the 2014 season, winning only 2 games. The abysmal season was not without benefits though, as the team was able to acquire quarterback Marcus Mariota with the 2nd pick in the NFL Draft. Mariota, who is known for his accuracy, is expected to take the starting quarterback job instantly, and has the potential to be the face of the Titans for years to come. Mariota will have a plethora of talented Titans receivers to dish the ball to, including Kendall Write, and rookie Dorial Green-Beckham. The Tennessee Titans are expected to start a number of rookies in 2015, and with that will likely come some inconsistency. But Titans fans should look forward to a team with a new direction, finally a quarterback capable of being a franchise player, and a drastically improved offense in 2015. Top non-division games on the Tennessee Titans 2015 schedule include home games against the Dolphins, Panthers, and Falcons.

Tennessee Titans Rivals

Titans vs. Ravens

This rivalry escalated in 2000 when these two teams had classic battles during the regular season and in the playoffs. After the NFL realigned the divisions in 2002, these two teams stopped playing each other twice a year. However, these two teams have met more times over the years in the playoffs and with some of the players on the Titans switching sides and playing for the Ravens through the years, this rivalry continues to be one of the more intense matchups in the NFL.

Titans vs. Steelers

These two teams first met in 1970 when the Titans were the Houston Oilers. This rivalry was one of the best in the NFL when they met two times a year. The matchup between these two teams is most remembered by the controversial call in the 1979 AFC Championship game when Oilers' quarterback Dan Pastorini threw a pass to wide receiver Mike Renfro in the end zone that was ruled incomplete.

Titans vs. Colts

The two most successful franchises in the division, this rivalry has become one of the best in the NFL over the years because the stakes are usually at its highest when these two teams play. The two teams have combined for more than 8 AFC South titles to go along with many more playoff appearances over the last 10+ years.

Titans in the Super Bowl, NFC Championship and in the NFL Playoffs

The Titans have won 8+ division titles and have made the playoffs more than 20 times since the organization started in 1960. The highlight of the Titans run during the Super Bowl era was their AFC Championship in 1999. The Titans nearly won the Super Bowl that season, but came two yards short from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
