2015 Los Angeles Kings Season Preview

The Los Angeles Kings went from the darlings of the NHL, to the league basement in only a single season. After winning the Stanley Cup, the Kings managed to have multiple players involved in off the ice issues, and finished 4 points outside of the playoff picture. But the corps of the Los Angeles Kings 2 Stanley Cup teams from the past four years is still intact, and the team is rested and ready to prove that they are still one of the premier teams in the NHL. The Kings went out and got forward Milan Lucic to add size to their front line, and picked up veteran defenseman Christian Ehrhoff to add depth to what has been a fantastic back line. But the 2015 Los Angeles Kings title hopes will once again lie with Jonathan Quick. Quick is still one of the preeminent goal tenders in the world and with him on the team, anything is possible for the Los Angeles Kings. Look for last season to be an aberration, and for the Kings to be right in the thick of the hunt for the Stanley Cup.

2014 Los Angeles Kings Season Preview

2013 saw the Los Angeles Kings return to Hockey’s highest step. The Kings seem to find a way to win in any situation they are put it. Whether it is coming back from a 3-0 series deficit to the San Jose Sharks, or beating the defending Stanly Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks in 7 games in the Western Conference finals, the Kings simply have the will to win. Few teams have seen the success that the Kings have had over the last 3 years, with 2 Stanley Cup titles and 3 trips to the Western Conference finals, the Kings just continue to win. The talk throughout the 2014 season will be about if the Kings can repeat as champions. No team has won back to back Stanley Cups since the Detroit Red Wings pulled it off in 1998. The LA Kings certainly have the pieces in place to be able to do so. Lost in the offseason was the charismatic Willie Mitchell but the core of the 2013 Stanley Cup Championship team is back for 2014. Marian Gaborik signed a long term deal in the offseason to stay in Los Angeles, and Drew Doughty, Justin Williams, and Anze Kopitar are all back. The Los Angeles Kings look to ride this talent and the goaltending greatness of Phenom Jonathan Quick to be the first repeat Stanley Cup champions of the salary cap era.

2013 Los Angeles Kings Season Preview

The Los Angeles Kings are bringing back most of a roster that has made it to the Western Conference Finals (including a Stanley Cup Finals win), but can they finally win a division title while they’re at it? The Oilers, Flames and Canucks have all joined their division, and the Kings are looking to feast on the Canadian teams. The Kings brought in Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens and Daniel Carcillo, while Jonathan Bernier, Dustin Penner and Rob Scuderi all left the team in the offseason. The Kings have the potential to go deep in the playoffs once again, and don’t be surprised if they add another cup to the trophy case. The Kings have a four-game home stand at the Staples Center in December, beginning with a Dec. 17 matchup with the Oilers. Following that are games against the Sharks, Avalache and Stars. Beginning January 4th, they’ll have another five-game stand with games against the Canucks, Wild, Bruins, Red Wings and Canucks.

2012 Los Angeles Kings Season Preview

After a disappointing year that saw two of their stars go down as the playoffs drew near, the Los Angeles Kings are aiming for the stars this season, and we don’t mean Brad Pitt. LA will return star center Anze Kopitar and forward Justin Williams to their roster after nasty injuries ended their 2010-11. On top of that, however, they might have had the most successful offseason of anyone in the NHL. They’ve brought in Mike Richards from Philadelphia and Simon Gagne, who was once Richards’ playmaking partner in Philly before moving to Tampa Bay. They believe this will shore up their left side and scoring issues if one of their stars is out again. Look for the Kings to make a major impact in the Western Conference this year if they can get, and keep, everyone healthy.

2011 Los Angeles Kings Season Preview

The Los Angeles Kings were a surprise to many fans last year, as they made the playoffs for the first time since 2001. Despite a loss in the first round, the season was considered a success, and thanks to a wealth of young talent, it would not be a surprise to see the Kings make a return trip this year. Much of the Kings' youth is on the offense, which is led by 26-year-old captain Dustin Brown. The right wing amassed an impressive 56 points last season, and will be looking to build on that this year as he is expected to spend time on the first line. Joining Brown will be last season's leading scorer, Anze Kopitar, at center, and Ryan Smyth on the left wing. Defensively, Los Angeles will be relying heavily on a young lineup as well. The defense will be anchored by second-year man Drew Doughty, who amassed 43 assists last season while providing some stalwart defending. Doughty will be helped by offseason additions Willie Mitchell and Alexander Edler, both of whom are a dominating physical presence. Jonathan Quick will likely be the starting goalie, and should be solid between the pipes.

2010 Los Angeles Kings Season Preview

The Los Angeles Kings will look at the 2009-2010 NHL season as a chance to climb out of the Western Conference cellar and return to the playoffs. The Kings faltered last year, but return a salty lineup that should return some excitement to the Staples Center. Kings captain Dustin Brown will have the job of leading his team back to the NHL playoffs for the first time since the 2002 season.
