Lloyd Noble Center is an indoor multi-purpose arena on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman, Oklahoma. The arena is primarily the home court for the Oklahoma Sooners basketball programs. Lloyd Noble is also known as “the LNC” and “the house that Alvan built and Wayman filled.” This is in reference to Alvan Adams, whose tremendous play in the ‘70s attracted enough support to build the Lloyd Noble Center, and Wayman Tisdale, whose achievements at OU in the ‘80s kept the arena sold out for most games. Visitors to Lloyd Noble Center will be unable to ignore the long tradition of basketball success and support for Sooners basketball.
Before the Lloyd Noble Center was opened in 1975, the OU basketball teams played at the OU Field House. It isn’t very well-known that the Field House held concerts by the likes if Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley in the ‘60s and ‘70s. The larger Lloyd Noble Center, with a capacity of over 11,000, is also well suited as a concert venue. The arena even hosted a New Orleans vs. Sacramento NBA game when the Hornets moved to Oklahoma City after Hurricane Katrina, and Oklahoma City’s Ford Center wasn’t available.
Visitors to the Lloyd Noble Center will quickly see the level of perfection with which OU Athletics operates, both on the court with its basketball teams, and in the comfort and level of professionalism they provide in this stunning arena.
