The U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team is a collection of the top soccer players from the United States. USMNT, or Team USA, has a history that dates back to 1885, but its first official international soccer match wasn't played until 30 years later when the U.S. defeated Sweden 3-2. USMNT competes in FIFA matches as well as CONCACAF confederation matches. On occasion, the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team receives invitations to tournaments sponsored by other confederations like the CONMEBOL Copa America.
Following the 1994 World Cup, which was held in the United States, things began to change for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team. The team qualified for five straight World Cups and made it out of the group stage in three of them. During that span, some of the most iconic American soccer players in history emerged, including Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Brian McBride, Jozy Altidore and Tim Howard. The US Men's National team is led today by Christian Pulisic and a handful of talented players.
