Sometimes called the Gateway to the West, St. Louis, Missouri is one of the most recognizable cities in the United States. With a diverse cultural atmosphere coupled with a collection of beloved and successful sports franchises, St. Louis has become a major tourist attraction over the last several decades.
Perhaps no aspect of St. Louis gets more attention than its sports. The St. Louis Cardinals are a mainstay in the MLB, and have a long and storied history that is rife with legendary players. Mark McGwire, Stan Musial and Albert Pujols have all played for The Redbirds, and they have been a perennial contender for years. The park is nothing to sneeze at either. Busch Stadium was completed in 2006, and is commonly considered one of the best places to watch a game.
Of course, the Cardinals aren't the only team to call St. Louis home. The Rams moved to the city from Los Angeles in the mid '90s, and have enjoyed a new level of success ever since, winning a Super Bowl behind Kurt Warner in 1999. The city also hosts the home games of Blues of the NHL, who play at the nearby Scottrade Center.
While believed to be one of the best sports cities in North America, St. Louis has much more than just athletics. Those looking to take in some of the city's cultural offerings would be remiss if they didn't stop by the Powell Symphony Hall. The venue is home to the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, which is the second oldest such organization in the United States. St. Louis has also been home to a number of famous pop music acts, from the demure Sheryl Crow to hip-hop star Nelly have all emerged from the legendary city.
The city is also home to a number of other attractions, from parks to museums to architecture. It's impossible to stop by St. Louis without at least paying a short visit to the Gateway Arch. This iconic structure is symbolic of the fact that St. Louis is the last bastion of the East. You may also want to take a stroll through Forest Park, which is one of the largest in the world, and 50 percent bigger than Central Park in New York.
