Often lauded for its beautiful weather and breathtaking beaches, Tampa Bay provides visitors with much more than a temperate climate. There is no lack of things to do in this Florida hot spot, and whether you are a sports fan or looking for an exciting town filled with culture, you will not be disappointed.
While it may not be the first city that comes to mine when one mentions sports, that does not mean Tampa does not have plenty to offer. The Tampa Bay Rays are one of the best up-and-coming young teams in the MLB. Since entering the league in 1997, the Rays have consistently improved, even making a World Series run in 2008. The Rays play their home games in the friendly confines of Tropicana Field, which provides ample protection from the frequent rain storms while still offering an authentic baseball experience.
Outside of the Rays, Tampa is also home to the Buccaneers of the NFL. A team that used to be full of lovable losers proved everyone wrong when they won the Super Bowl in 2002, and have since been contenders every year in the NFC South. The Bucs play their home games at Raymond James Stadium, which is considered to be among the most well-kept venues in the NFL, and even hosted Super Bowl XLIII.
Though one might not always think of hockey and Florida as two things that go together, Tampa is also home to the Lightning of the NHL. The Bolts, as they are sometimes called, are often among the most exciting teams in the league, and even took home the Stanley Cup title in 2004.
In addition to a strong sports culture, Tampa also has a very diverse performing arts scene. Perhaps most notably, the Straz Center for the Performing Arts is located in the heart of the city and often sees thousands of guests pass through its doors. The center features a slew of different stages that are home to everything from concerts to play to dance performances.
Whether looking to take in an intense divisional matchup between the Rays and Red Sox, kick back and soak up some sun, or indulge in one of your favorite plays, Tampa Bay has something that will put a smile on anyone’s face.
