Watch as the preparations for the next big hit on Broadway, Pretty Lady, unfold. Fresh-faced Peggy, just arrived from Allentown, PA, the smitten lead actor Billy, aging Prima Donna Dorothy, and director Julian have to make it work. An accident takes Peggy from chorus girl to lead, but not without some convincing as well as some eventual support from former lead Dorothy. Naturally, the day is saved and the show goes on.
42nd Street originally debuted on Broadway in 1980. It was adapted from the novel of the same name as well as the iconic 1933 film. Since its first Broadway bow there have been several revivals and touring shows. The enduring popularity of the musical is thanks to iconic songs like "We're in the Money," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Lullaby of Broadway," and the titular tune "Forty-Second Street."
