Founded by Tatiana Dokoudovska in 1957, the KC Ballet grew over the years into a significant part of the Kansas City arts scene. Originally performances were staged in what is now the Kansas City Lyric Theatre. Today the ballet performs primarily at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, using the Muriel Kauffman Theatre for it's largest shows. It is based out of the Todd Bolender Center for Dance and Creativity, a refurbished, historic coal power plant.
Programs in their spring and fall seasons vary between the classics and more recent works. Performances of "The Nutcracker" are a seasonal favorite. Be sure to check out what is happening on stage as the KC Ballet pleases audiences year round.
