The Miami City Ballet began in 1986, founded by Toby Lerner Ansin. Originally under the direction of New York City Ballet's former principal dancer, Edward Villella, he was replaced in 2012 by Lordes Lopez. The company favors the works of Balenchine, though they are not exclusive to a single composer.
The company performs primarily at the Ziff Ballet Opera House in the Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Center. The company doesn't stay put, touring around the world regularly as well as performing in cities around Florida.
