The hit Broadway musical, Peter and the Starcatcher, began its life as a best-selling children's novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and tells the story of Peter Pan's early life and is set before the famous adventure made popular on stage and screen. The book was a prequel to J. M. Barrie's novel, Peter and Wendy, and has been followed by a series of sequels that have made it one of the most popular young adult books on the market today.

After making a premiere in California in 2011, the play transitioned to an off-Broadway production and gained enough critical and commercial acclaim to be brought to Broadway on April 15, 2012. The show instantly became a sensation and appealed to a wide range of demographics who were already familiar with the story of Peter Pan and instantly dove into the story of how the young orphan found his way into Neverland.

The show has made waves in the Broadway community for boasting a theatre company of 12 actors who play dozens of characters. The story follows a young Peter, a young orphan who comes across a young woman named Molly, who is the son of one of the Starcatchers, Lord Aster. Aster is on a mission for the Queen of Neverland to recover this star material, which can grant any wish, and preventing it from falling into the wrong hands. From there, audience members are taken on a whirlwind ride through duels with pirates, meeting mermaids and all the wonderful whimsy that makes up Neverland.

With its dynamic use of stage space, its excellent cast and ensemble and unique subject matter, Peter and the Starcatcher is the latest in a long line of Broadway productions that has taken liberties to recreate and retell a classic story from pop culture and put a unique twist on a genuine American classic.
