Austin has many Christmas traditions, like checking out the famous Hyde Park houses covered in extravagant Christmas decorations or visiting the Zilker Holiday Tree. In 2010, however, those traditions have stiff competition from The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, which makes its way to the Bass Concert Hall for a run that goes from December 17-January 2.
Yes, the national tour—which is hitting 25 cities coast-to-coast—brings the world-famous, leg-kicking Rockettes to the 2,900-seat auditorium on the University of Texas campus. The Austin production is a complete replication of the celebrated New York show, which first graced Radio City in 1933. Including The Rockettes, there are 140 entertainers that grace the stage. They perform the show’s original score over ten amazing scenes, including the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers and The Living Nativity, which have been part of the Christmas Spectacular since the beginning.
So this holiday season, enjoy a little Broadway with your brisket and head to the Bass Concert Hall to catch The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Just be warned that the leg kicks can get infectious—so we’d avoid walking around the banks of Town Lake for a while after!
