Air Canada Center Information:

Occupants: Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors

Nestled in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Air Canada Centre was built to hold the Toronto Raptors, an expansion NBA team, and the longtime city favorite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. After playing their initial games in the Skydome, the Raptors finally had a NBA-ready facility to call their own. The Maple Leafs also bought into the new plan, as it desperately needed a new venue since the old Maple Leaf Gardens was extremely outdated. With a capacity of 19,500 during hockey games and slightly less for basketball, the arena has become the go-to spot in Toronto for conventions, concerts and large-scale sporting events. The building is on the site of the old Canada Post Delivery Building and is connected to the PATH system, making it easy for fans to get in and out of the facility.

The Toronto Raptors were one of two NBA teams that expanded into Canada in 1995. In the midst of hockey-obsessed Canada, the initial reception for the Raptors was positive and their first few years of existence showed that they were feisty and certainly a tough team to beat. It wasn't until the early 2000s when playoff basketball would come to the Air Canada Centre behind the stellar play of Vince Carter. The team made the playoffs from 2000-02 before Carter was traded to the New Jersey Nets during the 2004-05 season. Raptors' fans are still waiting for their first title, but they have laid the groundwork for competitive basketball.

The Maple Leafs are one of the most treasured franchises in professional hockey, but much of their glory years took place in the early days of the NHL. In recent years, the Maple Leafs have appeared sporadically in the playoffs. While they were able to make the playoffs between 1999 and 2004 with a conference championship appearance in 2002, Maple Leafs' fans are still waiting for their first Stanley Cup.

The Air Canada Centre is also the preeminent venue in Toronto to see musical performances from a variety of genres. The ACC has booked countless big acts, such as Prince, Coldplay, Lady Gaga and many more, and the arena is an important stop on the North American concert circuit. With its world-class amenities, thrilling live performances and ease of access, the Air Canada Centre is one of the most modern arenas in all of Canada.
